I didn’t quite see it like this until a friend recently messaged me saying surely there were easier ways of raising money for charity than risking life and limbs by throwing myself off a plane.
It brought on trepidation. But I should be fine, God willing. After all, I managed a bungee jump.
It made me examine why I’m doing this. I really am not sure. When I did my bungee jump 2 years ago, it was not because it was on my list of ‘Things I Have To Do At Some Point’. Though this has since been added and ticked off That List. It was quite simply because I was dared, and because it would raise a decent sum of money for a charitable cause.
I had announced the opportunity on the Network Bangla forum, and the members turned around and egged me on to sign up instead. Not one to back down from a challenge for good cause usually, I took it up. It wasn’t until the final moment, up against the blue sky on the crane, when the instructor told me that I was to jump off once he counted 3, that I was suddenly struck with fear and the thought, “Seriously, what am I doing?!” (more…)
