Hijack My Heart
23rd May

written by Sulthana

You tease with whispers that caress
my eyelids but not quite
kiss them close

Please don’t dance out of my reach tonight

How I need you to envelope me now,
and send me to the land
of unremembered dreams

My eyes seek to seal but you
do not let me drift to the
sweet ether of you

Please don’t dance out of my reach tonight

Tis late in the night and the comfort
of my bed calls for you,
pleads for you

Take my crowded restless head on
your lap and sing me softly
to a secret nirvana

Oh why must you desert me
at this hour of want,
nay this hour of need

Please don’t dance out of my reach tonight

My mind will be quenched and stilled
by naught but the honey pot
of your being

Do come, drop me some
nectarous charm
on these burning eyes

Soothe the head that
begins to ache
with its longing for you

Please don’t dance out of my reach tonight

Instead sway me softly, pull
me close until I fall
gently into you

Please don’t dance out of my reach tonight

This is so excellent because of its ambiguity : )

lovely…almost a lullaby in and of itself…nice yearning, i felt it in your words…hope the sand man comes a knocking…

Beautiful poem that expresses well the desperate need of a human heart for communion with another. Wonderfully expressed…

Ah…the beauty of sleep when it comes.
I love “Do come, drop me some
    nectarous charm
    on these burning eyes”.

I would have loved to have heard this at the Open Mic. Do you have a recording of it?

Very nice poetry. I liked the repetition of the refrain that played almost like a lullaby.

  7. 25/05/2011

I enjoyed the flow, from start to finish. The repetition of Please don’t dance out of my reach tonight, created a very nice sense of framework. Beautiful word choice. Thanks for sharing

Thank you all for your wonderful words, glad the poem touched you in the ways it has.

I enjoyed particularly trying to keep it slightly ambiguous ;)
